PHOTOGRAPH - PULITZER PRIZE

Out journal hopping and saw this on a dear sister in Christ's journal.  PHOTOGRAPH - Pulitzer PRIZE :

Started to just leave a comment there, but then decided to "Blog about it" would be better.  Please view and read her entry so this will make more sense.

I know I've seen this photo before.  It is so hard for us to realize that most of our dogs and livestock eat better than half the people in the world.  So many ways we are blessed!!!!  Homes of our own, even if you rent, few have to share small spaces with multiple families.  Clothing for every event and weather.  Assortments of shoes.  And medical care may cost a lot, but at least we have it available.  We are truly blessed beyond measure and we can't even comprehend it!  And seldom appreciate it like we should.  I think of "to whom much is given much is required."  It seems by and large as a people we hoard and don't share.  And when we do share it is not in a biblical way - giving our best - but giving our cast offs and leftovers.  How much longer can we stand??  -  Barbara

  2. That is certainly a dramatic photo.   That is a good reminder that there are more important things in life than acquiring material wealth.   We are headed into a change in the world's supply of oil and have been consuming like there is no tomorrow.   Then there are those in the world that would be happy just to have safe water to drink.   I am happy to have a roof over my head and a refrigerator with food.   I need to be thankful for what I have.    mark

  3. Barbara I feel the same way.  We can be so selfish sometimes.  I saw that picture a few months ago and it broke my heart.

    Great entry.

  6. Oh, Barbara, if you hadn't shown me this I would never have seen it and felt so sad!! The poor photojournalist, Kevin Carter... to take that picture, and have to leave without helping... I wonder what the story was there? Maybe he couldn't help? Something to do with the government in place? No wonder he became so depressed after winning the PUlitzer Prize. How can anyone walk into a scene like that and not feel disgust and not be disturbed. What kept anyone from picking that child up and carrying her to safety? I don't know the story behind it. I tried to find out more, but didn't dig deep enough, I suppose. I regularly send money to a mission in Zimbabwe to help the children orphaned by AIDS. I want to do something, and this is my way of helping. I have regular contact with the mission people through their newsletters and their website. I think everyone is capable of helping at least one other person out, and many are capable of helping two or three people out, a few can help many more, and there are the gifted (like Bono of U2) who can help thousands and thousands. Anyway, thank you for the boot in the pants to remind me that I can do more because people we don't even know are suffering like that little girl in the Sudan did. BTW, thanks for visiting and commenting on my Polyphemus First Flight entry this week! Glad you liked it. Bea

  9. GOD bless you, Barbara.

you are touching many lives with your journal
     GOD Bless you.

It is heart wrenching that so many are suffering so
I PRAY we will SEE how very much we do have and
begin to SHARE it, with open arms, hands GIVE EVERYTHING
        away...

or at least try to, because I have a feeling we can't.

GOD's HOLY WORD says, "Give, and it will be given unto you...."

BUT, MAN, IT WOULD SURELY BE AN ADVENTURE TO TRY

and THINK OF ALL THE DESPERATELY POOR WE COULD HELP!

just a sandwich would have brought JOY to that little baby.

SO LITTLE so very little helps so VERY much when one is poor.

    hugs
    Cammie
